OUR GOAL
Committed to the continuous education and professional growth of Chinese-American physicians, the Alliance supports members by organizing annual conferences, seminars, and specialized continuing education courses. These events not only promote the latest innovations in patient care but also facilitate the sharing of best practices and emerging technologies.
In addition to its educational mission, the Chinese American Eye Alliance actively engages in community service, supporting charitable and scientific initiatives that benefit the broader community. Membership is open to clinicians, technologists, and industry personnel of Chinese descent who are involved in ophthalmology, offering a welcoming environment that encourages both professional development and collaboration. The Alliance operates with a flexible, no-fee membership model, allowing participants to freely join and contribute to its mission.

Mingwu Wang, MD, PhD
Founding President
Dr. Mingwu Wang, MD, PhD, is a distinguished Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Vision Science at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. With over two decades of experience in ophthalmology and molecular biology, Dr. Wang has made significant contributions to the field, particularly in corneal and external diseases. He completed his MD and PhD at China Medical University and underwent extensive residency and fellowship training at the Doheny Eye Institute, USC. As the founder and president of NeuVision Medical Institute, Dr. Wang continues to advance medical science and patient care through his clinical expertise and leadership.
Grace Fu Palma, MBA
Founding Operation Manager
Grace brings 20+ years of industry experience to the medical device industry. As seasoned bilingual and bicultural MedTech executive, she held a variety of marketing, operational and strategic development management positions at both large multinationals (Hewlett Packard Medical) and startup companies (Teratech). She specializes in China NMPA (CFDA) regulatory (RA/QA/CRO/CER) and commercialization services. In addition, she founded Chinese American Heart Association (500+ cardiovascular clinical professionals) in 2005. She received a BA degree from Peking University, China, and an MBA from Yale University in New Haven, CT.
Bo Huang, MD, PhD
Founding Liaison with China
Dr. Bo Huang, MD, PhD, is a tenured Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he serves as the Director of Cornea Service and Medical Director of Ophthalmology. With extensive expertise in corneal diseases and refractive surgery, Dr. Huang has significantly contributed to both clinical practice and research, securing extramural funding from NIH and leading clinical trials. He also serves as the Medical Director of the Mississippi Lions Eye Bank, overseeing all medical aspects of eye bank operations. Dr. Huang's dedication to education is evident in his mentorship of residents and medical students, shaping the future of ophthalmology.
Ying Han, MD, PhD
Founding Membership Director
Dr. Ying Han, MD, PhD, is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she also serves as the Medical Director of Ophthalmology. With a distinguished career spanning over two decades, Dr. Han is a leading expert in glaucoma, recognized for her high clinical and surgical volumes at UCSF. She completed her medical education at Nanjing Medical University, followed by a PhD in Vision Science from UC Berkeley, and specialized training in ophthalmology at UCSF. Dr. Han is also an attending physician at UCSF's Wayne & Gladys Valley Vision Center, as well as at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition to her clinical work, she has a strong commitment to education, and supervising residents and fellows while contributing significantly to glaucoma research.
Yi Zhang, MD, PhD
Founding Program Coordinator
Dr. Yi Zhang, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He specializes in retina and vitreous diseases, including retinal detachment, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and more.
Dr. Zhang completed his MD at Zhejiang Medical University in China and his PhD at Peking Union Medical College. He has undergone extensive training, including fellowships in Vitreo-Retina at the National Retina Institute and postdoctoral work at Oregon Health & Science University.
His research interests focus on gene therapy for retinal diseases and micropulse subthreshold laser treatments for diabetic macular edema. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Guilin Zhan, MD
Board of Director
Dr. Guilin Zhan, MD, is a distinguished glaucoma specialist with a robust career in ophthalmology and pharmacology, currently serving as a consultant for the Huaxia Eye Hospital Group in China. With over three decades of experience, Dr. Zhan has held prominent roles, including Vice President and Professor at Xiamen Eye Center, as well as Director of Glaucoma Pharmacology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. His research contributions are significant, particularly in developing glaucoma management drugs and retinal ischemic models. Dr. Zhan has also held senior research positions at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research and served as a guest professor at several prestigious institutions in China.
